How many programmers in the world?

I've been trying to find out how many programmers there are in the world, what technologies they know and use, etc.

But I can't find out any information searching the web.

I must be asking the wrong questions.

There are about 6 billion people in the world, what are they doing, and how many of them are programmers?

Inquiring minds want to know!
