Oh.. and what the fuck is up with PCI Express!? :P
Is it actually 'good', or is it just the next consumer grade specification, designed to ruin compatibility and force you to upgrade..?
It's not so bad.

So regular PCI gets 132 MB/s bandwidth, and that's shared with among all PCI slots (and I believe that 132 is for sending and receiving).
PCI Express x1 gets 250 MB/s *per slot* and *per direction*! So really it's 132 MB/s per board vs. 500 MB/s per slot.
AGP 8x gets 2 GB/s currently; PCI Express graphics cards use x16 which results in 4 GB/s each way, which is cool, but AGP 8x is already overkill, really.
So... should I go out an buy a bunch of PCI Express cards, or is it going to be superceded by the end of the year..? :P
Yes... and yes!
Aren't you glad you chose technology as a hobby? ;)
Very funny.
