I just arranged to buy 1.5 TERA bytes of disk..
I'm getting a gigabit switch, and some new computers too.
Cool.
nice mins
whats the occasion?
Just trying to seperate my 'production' systems from my 'testing' systems.
I've got 8 computers here at the moment, and all of them are used for important things, email servers, database servers, source servers, dchp, dns, domain controller, development and testing environments, firewalls, etc.
Pretty much all of my computers are doing something that I 'rely' on, so I want some new ones that I can treat more seriously (i.e. I'm not forced to install a test system on my domain controller because that's the only box I've got available, or I can't test on WinXP because I don't have a box available to install that OS, etc.)
Also, I backup to tape and rotate them. My tapes hold 36 GB of data, but that's not quite enough space any more considering all the stuff that goes on there. It takes about 3 hours to backup to tape, and I need to start the process manually (which is a real hassle).
So basically I'm just trying to sort my network out, get a better (i.e. low maintenance) back up strategy in place, and become a little bit more organised.
I'm also moving my source control system from perforce to subversion, and waiting for a dedicated box to host that (because I really care about that being properly backed up and running on a stable system).
Btw, 1.5 TB breaks down as:
5x 120 GB ide.
1x 250 GB ide.
3x 250 GB usb.
I've probably already got about 1 TB of storage floating around here atm. 72 GB of which is SCSI RAID, the rest just 100-200 GB IDE drive in various machines..
Too bad if I forget where I put that file! ;)
...and about 1 TB of tape.
...and about 100 spare blank CDs.
...and about 100 used CDs.
:P
( the same information overload everyone deals with I guess. Most of the data on there is just redunant backup data, or historical 'archive' stuff. )
Sweet

Not lately. Virtual PC is another one I keep hearing a bit about ( it's the MS one )
